SYLACAUGA, Ala. – “What a joy it is to announce the 142nd church anniversary of the St. Thomas United Methodist Church,” said Genora Hale.
St. Thomas United Methodist Church is located at 503 S Main Ave. in Sylacauga, and a special commemorative worship service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11:00 a.m.
“It is truly amazing to think that it was 142 years ago that a small group of people gathered with the desire to plant a church to have an impact on their community,” said Hale, “Now, 142 years later, we are still here, still standing!”
The anniversary’s theme is “Forward in Faith – Philippians 3:13-14.”
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
The church’s anniversary celebration will begin with in-person Sunday school at 10:00 a.m.
The 11:00 a.m. special guest speaker will be Rev. Deforest Godfrey, Pastor of New Beginnings Ministries of Sylacauga. The worship leader, Rev. Shirleen Harvey, is the pastor of St. Thomas United Methodist Church.
