SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga High School junior Franklin Perez has been selected to play in the 25th annual Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) North-South All-Star Soccer game July 21.
The two All-Star teams are comprised of a limited roster of current high school juniors from all classifications (1A-7A) throughout the state. Perez was nominated for the honor by SHS Varsity Soccer coach Billy Faircloth, and is the seventh SHS player to ever make the elite North-South All-Star team.
According to Coach Faircloth, last year Perez scored 18 goals and eight assists, and was awarded the 2020 Talladega County Player of the Year during his sophomore season, which was shortened due to the pandemic. He was named to both the 2020 All-State 4A/5A 1st Team and 1A-7A 2nd Team. Perez’ talents stood out even more impressively in the 2021 season with 38 goals and 20 assists. He was named to both the 2021 All-Talladega County Team and the 2021 Golden Goal Tournament Team.
“Franklin is a great player to coach,” Faircloth remarked. “He has amazing instincts and field presence, and I know he will be a great contributor in the North-South game. I am thrilled for Franklin and ecstatic that he is receiving this recognition. We are all so proud of him for being selected for this incredible honor!”
The North-South All-Star Soccer game will be played in Montgomery.
