ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Dale Baker of Sylacauga was honored with the 2025 Energy Southeast Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday, April 28, during the President’s Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the Energy Southeast Power Supply Conference.
Baker, the former Secretary and Treasurer of the Energy Southeast Board of Directors and past chairman of the Sylacauga Utilities Board, was recognized for more than four decades of service to public power and the state of Alabama. He also represented the Sylacauga Utilities Board on the Energy Southeast Board from 2009 until his retirement in 2024.
“Dale has left a lasting legacy to the customers of Sylacauga Utilities Board, the state of Alabama, and the public power industry by building strong relationships and alliances,” said Fred Clark, President and CEO of Energy Southeast. “Dale was instrumental in the formation of our organization and the passage of the Enabling Legislation that established the joint action agency in 1981 as a public corporation to provide dependable, economical electric power and other services for the 11 Member cities. We thank Dale for his dedicated service to Energy Southeast and its Members, and to the customers of Sylacauga Utilities Board.”
Baker served as General Manager of the Sylacauga Utilities Board from 1988 to 2003, and was later appointed to the board in 2006. He served as chairman until 2009.
His contributions to Energy Southeast date back to its founding, including service on the original Election Committee from 1981 through 2002.
Energy Southeast, headquartered in Montgomery, is a joint action agency that provides wholesale power to 11 public utilities in Alabama. The agency serves approximately 350,000 customers across cities including Sylacauga, Alexander City, Dothan, Opelika, and Fairhope, among others.
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Energy Southeast and the public power sector.
