SYLACAUGA, Ala. – After a difficult year, a local business, church and the Sylacauga community came together to give Sylacauga resident, Patricia Benson a Christmas blessing she will never forget.
Hurricane Zeta swept across the state of Alabama in late October, leaving several residents, including Benson with severe damage to their homes and property.
Benson and her youngest grandson, Tyson were riding out the storm in her home, when a large tree came crashing through the roof leaving severe damage. With the coldest and wettest months in Alabama just around the corner, Benson began searching for someone to repair the damages.
Anyone who knows Benson, would describe her as a blessing to anyone she comes in contact with. She spends most of her days caring for others at Spring Terrace Assisted Living.
A local business, church and the Sylacauga community got wind of Benson’s needs and quickly got to work preparing a Christmas blessing she would never forget.
Benson was under the impression she was getting a new roof on her home, little did she know, she would arrive home to a newly renovated house, thanks to the generosity of a local business, church and the community.
“It’s a shock, I never dreamed it would be like this,” said Benson. “It’s more than I thought would ever happen, I was just blessed. Everyone involved was there for me, when I didn’t think anybody would be. It’s just a blessing.”
Benson expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in the project.
This Christmas is one she will truly never forget.
