SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Aggies traditionally have a great track and field program. 2022 was no different.
Over the weekend the Aggies competed in the 2022 Alabama Track and Field Championships, and came home with hardware. Sylacauga had participants in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash, the 4×400 meter relay, the javelin throw, and the shot put.
Sylacauga junior Tavares “Bill” Lauderdale set a new school record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.36. Lauderdale finished 3rd in the state.
“I am extremely proud of Tavares,” said Sylacauga track and field coach Nitha Storey. “He’s a phenomenal athlete and has demonstrated his athleticism in track and football.”
Junior Bryant Waters finished 4th in the state in javelin with a distance of 158-feet 4-inches.
The boys 4×400 relay team came up with an impressive 3rd place finish. The team consists of Jeremy Odem, Antionne Borden, Bill Lauderdale and Jaden Jackson. The team timed in at 3:30.54.
The Track and Field Championships took place at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores.
Sylacauga track and field is lead by head coaches Derrick Crawford and Storey as well as assistant coaches Loretta Player and Brannon Cockerham.
