SYLACAUGA, Ala. – During its first regular meeting of November, the Sylacauga City Council voted unanimously to waive adoption fees for the rest of the calendar year due to chronic overcrowding at the Sylacauga Animal Shelter.
The shelter staff will now waive adoption fees, and that will continue through Dec. 30. There is a one animal per household limit, except in cases of bonded (pair) animals.
Potential adopters must be able to provide verifiable references, have financial means to provide for the pet – including monthly heart worm prevention meds, annual vet exams, etc. – and time to spend/bond with the pet.
Families with fenced-in yards or acreage are especially wanted.
Please note that some of the dogs at the shelter are under Feral Dogs contracts. Therefore, they will remain at the discounted $80 adoption fee.
