SYLACAUGA, Ala. – It was a busy day for Sylacauga Head Boys Basketball Coach William Copeland. Early on Monday, he was named the ‘Coach of the Year’ for basketball in the state of Alabama. On Monday afternoon, he and his team received a large donation from Sylacauga’s alumni association, the S-Club.
In the Sylacauga High School Library, S-Club President Earl Lewis welcomed those in attendance and congratulated the basketball team on its championship. “It is a real pleasure for me to be here this afternoon,” said Lewis. “This was a great year for basketball and all sports. This team was one of the most fun teams I’ve ever seen.”
S-Club treasurer Chad Reams was also in attendance and presented the donation, a $6,000 check, to Copeland and his team. Speaking to the team Reams said, “You represented our town, school, and my alma-mater with respect.”
Reams explained the donation will pay for half of the state title rings and the upcoming team banquet. Any money that is left over will go towards other basketball expenses.
“We’re very thankful because it’s a going to be great for these kids to look down at their finger and realize they were a part of a state championship team. This would not be possible with the S-Club and its generous donation,” Copeland said. “We are very blessed to have its support.”
