SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Police remain investigating a double shooting that occurred Friday night, Aug. 8, which left a 17-year-old B.B. Comer High School student dead.
The Sylacauga Police Department identified the victim as D’Marcus Riggins. Officers responded around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 8 to reports of two people shot in the Crestline Ave. area near Drew Court.
When officers arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were performed on Riggins, while the second victim’s injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Both were taken to Coosa Valley Medical Center, where Riggins died from his injuries. The second victim was later transferred to UAB Hospital in Birmingham and has since been released.
Authorities have not released any suspect information and are asking for the public’s help. CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
