SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department’s K9 units played a crucial role in two recent drug busts, leading to multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal substances, firearms, and drug paraphernalia.
In the first operation, Officer Morgan with the police department conducted a nighttime traffic stop and requested assistance from K9 Officer Corporal Jones and his K9 partner, Aki.
The K9 unit quickly alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, leading to a search that uncovered 14 ounces of marijuana, crack cocaine, MDMA, Vyvanse, dextroamphetamine, and oxycodone, along with digital scales.
Two suspects were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in the first degree, five counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Talladega County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force has now taken over the case.
In a separate operation, Officer Kelley, with assistance from K9 Corporal Taylor and K9 Reka, conducted two traffic stops that resulted in the seizure of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, SPICE, firearms, and drug paraphernalia.
On social media, authorities have praised both the officers and K9 units for their work in keeping dangerous substances and weapons off the streets.
