SYLACAUGA, Ala. – In a bid to ensure community safety, the Sylacauga Police Department (SPD) has issued a stern reminder that unregistered golf carts are prohibited on roadways unless they adhere to specific criteria.
The regulations stipulate that golf carts must be equipped with essential safety features, including front and rear turn signals, brake lights, and red reflex reflectors.
Along with those requirements, carts must have side and rear-view mirrors, a parking brake, and federally approved seat belts at each designated seating position. Windshields must also conform to federal standards for glazing materials.
Operators must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. Additionally, carts are not permitted to exceed speeds of 25 mph and should only traverse roadways with a limit of 25 mph or lower.
The SPD have noted that these rules are crucial for community well-being. Violations may result in fines and the towing of vehicles at the owner’s expense.
