SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department recently recognized several members of its team for outstanding service and achievements during a city council meeting.
Corporal Andy Layton was presented with the department’s 2024 Top Gun Award, honoring the officer with the highest accuracy in both firearms qualifications and the demanding Combat Course.
Layton demonstrated top-level proficiency with both handgun and patrol rifle, setting a high standard for tactical training and marksmanship.
The department also celebrated the promotion of Captain Jason McNeill to Operations Commander.
A Sylacauga native, McNeill began his career with Sylacauga Police Department in 1997 and has served in nearly every major division. From Patrol Division and precinct leadership to Chief Investigator, McNeill has demonstrated steady leadership throughout his tenure.
His promotion to Operations Commander on Feb. 8 caps a decades-long career of dedication and service to the community he calls home.
Additionally, the department honored Chaplain Mark Ledbetter, who is retiring after 20 years of volunteer service.
Ledbetter provided spiritual and emotional support to officers and citizens alike, responding to critical incidents and serving as a steady presence during difficult times. His impact, both inside and outside the department, was recognized with heartfelt thanks.
