SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department honored the retirement of Sgt. Donnie Landers on Sunday, June 29, after a distinguished career lasting nearly five decades in law enforcement.
Landers began his service in 1977 at the Police Academy and spent his early years with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department.
He joined the Sylacauga Police Department in 1993, serving in patrol, investigations, narcotics, and since 2003, as a sergeant.
Known for his integrity, compassion and commitment to community, Landers leaves behind a legacy of leadership and dedication that colleagues say will not be forgotten.
“Your dedication has made our city stronger and safer,” the police department posted in a statement on social media. “You will be deeply missed by your brothers and sisters at SPD and by the citizens of Sylacauga.”
Landers now looks forward to retirement, where friends and family hope he enjoys well-earned rest and relaxation.
