AUBURN, Ala. – Five alumni from Auburn University’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, including Sylacauga native Maury Gaston, were honored during a ceremony last month for their distinguished careers.
The Auburn Alumni Engineering Council recognized four as Distinguished Auburn Engineers, one as an Outstanding Young Auburn Engineer, and a Professor Emeritus for Superior Service.
Gaston, who earned a mechanical engineering degree in 1982, recently retired as the marketing services manager for AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company. He worked in sales and marketing during his 42-year career, promoting iron and steel pipe across the country before returning to Birmingham in 1997.
A third-generation Auburn graduate, Gaston has served Auburn in numerous capacities, including chairing the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council from 2013 to 2016.
In addition to his contributions to the waterworks industry, Gaston remains active with Auburn, serving as a director of the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame and as national president of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He and his family also established a scholarship endowment for Auburn’s engineering students.
Other honorees included Shirley Boulware, Chris Kramer, Art Slotkin, Jordan Watkins, and Professor Emeritus Sushil Bhavnani.
The Auburn Alumni Engineering Council, founded in 1965, works to support the goals of Auburn’s College of Engineering through strong leadership and ongoing participation.
