HomeFootballSylacauga native Doug Goodwin continues legendary coaching career, celebrates 250th winSylacauga native Doug Goodwin continues legendary coaching career, celebrates 250th winTue, September 12, 2023 by SylacaugaNews.com Digital TeamSHARE NOW Photo courtesy of Jackson Preparatory SchoolJACKSON, Miss. – Last Friday, Sept. 8, history was made on the football field as Doug Goodwin, a Sylacauga native and current Jackson Prep Football Head Coach, celebrated his 250th career win with a 17-10 victory over Jackson Academy in Mississippi.Goodwin, who took the reins as head coach of Jackson Prep in February of 2022, is undefeated so far this season, leading his team to a stellar 4-0 record.A 1980 graduate of Sylacauga High School and an Auburn University football alum, Goodwin’s coaching prowess has earned him numerous accolades over the years.Goodwin was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s (ASWA) Coach of the Year in 2004. Then, in 2008, he was honored as the Alabama Football Coaches Association State Coach of the Year. Adding to his accolades, in 2015, he secured a spot in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Sports Hall of Fame.Goodwin’s storied high school coaching career boasts an impressive record, featuring 14 area/regional championships, 21 state playoff appearances, five state championship game appearances, and one state championship victory. A true trailblazer, he became the first coach in AHSAA history to guide three different schools to a state championship game. Lineville witnessed state title game appearances in 1996 and 1998 under his leadership, while Demopolis celebrated victory in 2004. Russellville then played in back-to-back championship games in 2008 and 2009.
