HomeLocalSylacauga Named “Alabama Pinhoti Trail Town”Sylacauga Named “Alabama Pinhoti Trail Town”Thu, October 8, 2020 by SylacaugaNews.com Digital TeamSHARE NOW SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Saturday, September 26, the City of Sylacauga was awarded Alabama Pinhoti Trail Town status.The Alabama Pinhoti Trail Association will support the City of Sylacauga in promoting and advertising the trail along with educating the public about the wonderful treasure that is practically in their backyard.The APTA partnered with Sylacauga after receiving an application completed by Sylacauga Mayor, City Council, Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce, and the Pinhoti Outdoor Center. APTA is an Alabama 501c3 corporation chartered with promoting, maintaining, and supporting all endeavors with Alabama’s premier hiking trail.Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Strickland says, “Sylacauga truly has a treasure with the Pinhoti Trail. Now more than ever, our families and friends are seeking outdoor adventure to escape from everyday stress of life. Becoming an Alabama Pinhoti Trail Town will help us better promote the trail and show hikers that Sylacauga welcomes them and appreciates them.”The Pinhoti National Recreation Trail is 350 miles in length starting at Flagg Mountain in Coosa County and connecting with the Benton MacKaye Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. Approximately 175 miles are located in Alabama with nearly 90 percent of that located in the Talladega National Forest.
