SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A Sylacauga man has been charged with the torture and abuse of a 7-year-old girl.
38-year-old Jeffrey Otis Allred was arrested on June 23 and is being held on $100,000 bond.
According to Talladega County Sheriff’s Capt. Billy Kennedy, the alleged abuse took place in October 2016. Kennedy said the victim had significant bruising and broken bones. The 7-year-old girl would eventually have surgery for her injuries at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
The delay in Allred’s arrest can be credited to multiple variables. First, investigations had to complete its protocol in the matter which included conducting a thorough investigation and waiting on all medical records. Second, Kennedy said Allred was hiding from law enforcement throughout the process.
Allred is also being charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance stemming from an incident in March. This charge was brought on by the Talladega County Drug Task Force. The bond for this charge has been set for $25,000.
