SYLACAUGA, Ala. – This past Saturday, May 14, the Sylacauga Association of Letter Carriers and Alabama Childhood Food Solutions (ACFS) banded together to help feed the hungry in the Sylacauga area.
A total of 5,516 pounds of non-perishable food items were picked up by the carriers of the Sylacauga Post Office.
“This is something we’ve always done,” said Sylacauga Post Office postmaster Phillip Dennis. “We’ve done it since 2009 back when I was a mail carrier.”
The food will be shared by ACFS through the End Hunger Sylacauga program and will also go to those needing it in Coosa County.
“We serve the community daily,” Dennis said. “It helps us to be able to go that extra mile to collect food for those that need it. This is near and dear to a lot of people here. There’s nothing better than knowing that children don’t have to go home without anything to eat. It’s our way of giving back to the community.”
If you or someone you know is suffering from hunger, you can contact ACFS to apply for food at (398) 201-2129.
