SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga softball celebrated on Friday as one of its own made her college decision final.
In front of family, friends and teammates, pitcher Lani Varner signed to play college softball at Central Alabama Community College (CACC).
Since 2021, Varner has struck out 308 batters with a win-loss record of 27-16. Varner, one of the best hitters on the team, has also batted .384 since 2021 with 11 home runs and 65 RBI. She’s only been a part of the varsity roster since her 7th grade season.
“Central Alabama Community College is getting a great student athlete,” said Sylacauga Softball Coach Chad Wilkinson. “She is a work horse for our program at the plate and in the circle.”
As impressive as Varner’s stats have been since 2021, she still has a chance to add to her accomplishments in her senior season.
“My expectations this year are to get better in my last season here,” said Varner.
“I think she can relax, and play hard-nosed softball now that she’s made her decision. She can help take this team where it needs to go.”
Varner will start her season season on Friday, Feb. 17, in Alexander City.
