SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Serving the children of the world – that is the motto of all Kiwanians, and that is what the Sylacauga Kiwanis Club is doing this holiday season.
On Monday at Southern States Bank the club had a member donate $100 to Alabama Childhood Food Solutions and $100 to the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement to go towards food and toys for the 3rd Annual Stuff the Bus Food and Toy Drive. Non-perishable food items and toy donations for Stuff the Bus can be brought to Tony Serra Ford on Hwy. 280 during normal business hours until Dec. 22.
“This donation will go a long way,” said Jim Jones. Jones is the director of Alabama Childhood Food Solutions. “This will pay for approximately 60 kids to have a bag of food for the next week or two.”
Jones said his organization serves thousand of children across five counties and every donation towards Stuff the Bus will change a child’s life.
Kiwanis also made a $200 donation towards the Sylacauga Police Department’s fundraiser that will buy toys for children in foster care.
“We just hope we can make Christmas great for these foster children who may not get as much as they deserve this Christmas,” said Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson. “Hopefully this season will be a little brighter for the kids in DHR custody and make things easier on them.”
Monday was the last day to receive donations. Now SPD will go out and buy gifts requested by the children in DHR custody to ensure they will have presents under the tree this Christmas.
