Sylacauga honors Lifesaver 4 heroes with plaque and hangar dedication

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A solemn ceremony took place at the Sylacauga Municipal Airport on Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, as a plaque was unveiled to honor the Lifesaver 4 crew who tragically lost their lives earlier this year.

The plaque now finds its permanent home at the hangar from which the Lifesaver 4 crew’s helicopter would typically depart.

The dedication was a poignant tribute to heroes Marc Gann and Adam Russell who perished on one fateful evening in April.

On that tragic Sunday, the Lifesaver 4 medical assistance helicopter was responding to a call to aid a stranded hiker when it crashed in Shelby County. The accident claimed the lives of pilot Marc Gann and EMS nurse Adam Russell, leaving flight paramedic Amanda Daniels in critical condition.

The plaque dedication ceremony saw heartfelt words from Sylacauga Mayor Jim Heigl, who reflected on the selfless dedication of Gann and Russell. “Their legacy and memory carry on with each and every one of us here,” said Heigl.

The plaque stands as a lasting tribute to Gann and Russell who answered their call to serve, no matter the peril.
