MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sylacauga High School student Josie Harrison was honored on Thursday, May 8, as the 2024 Youth Female Athlete of the Year at the Alabama State Games recognition ceremony, taking place at the State Capitol in Montgomery.
Gov. Kay Ivey and her team hosted the 2024 Athletes of the Year, celebrating Harrison and fellow recipients Joseph Hooks (Youth Male), Cody Dobbins (Adult Male), and Victoria Dobbins (Adult Female). Each athlete was recognized with a proclamation for their achievements both on and off the field.
Harrison will also take center stage during the Alabama State Games’ Opening Ceremony on Friday, June 13, helping carry the Games Flame into Birmingham’s Legacy Arena.
Now in its 42nd year, the Alabama State Games will be held June 13-15 across Birmingham and Jefferson County, featuring 27 sports ranging from archery to wrestling. The ASF Foundation will award 34 scholarships totaling $42,000 during the Opening Ceremony. Since the program began, more than $415,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
The Olympic-style event welcomes athletes of all ages and abilities from across the state and beyond, aiming to inspire through competition, community, and opportunity.
