SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga High School (SHS) will host students, parents, and any community members interested for a Career Tech Open House next Thursday, Feb. 2.
The open house will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Those attending will be invited to tour the SHS Career Tech classrooms as well as talk with industry partners about future job opportunities in the Sylacauga area.
For the 2023-24 school year, students will begin applying for courses in February. In order to graduate, students must complete three Career Tech classes. Those interested in certain fields can also apply for offered Career Tech classes as their elective options.
Career Tech offers “class clusters” in the following areas of study:
– Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications
– Business, Management, and Administration
– Education and Training (dual enrollment at CACC)
– Finance
– Health Science
– Hospitality and Tourism
– Information Technology (CIS dual enrollment)
– Manufacturing (dual enrollment at CACC)
– Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
“We are excited about all of the [Career Tech] pathways,” said Deana Goodwine, Sylacauga City Schools’ Director of Workforce Development. “Students can find their ‘niche’ in any of these. We have just opened the STEM Engineering Pathway this year. It is new and we have a strong partnership with the local industry.”
The deadline for course application for the 2023-24 school year is March 31.
