SYLACAUGA, Ala. –  Both Sylacauga varsity boys and girls golf teams played in the Aggie Invitational golf tournament on March 15 against schools from around the state of Alabama.

Enterprise High School won the boys division with a score of 302, with Auburn High School coming in second. The all-tournament team was led by a low medalist Grant Smith from Montgomery from Montgomery Catholic, who shot an impressive 70. Smith was joined by Nick Cook, Jack Bailey, and Gibson Charlton from Enterprise and Mark Sawyer from Cedar Bluff.

John Carroll Catholic High School won the girls division with a score of 253, with Sylacauga High School coming in second. The all-tournament team was led by Kaitlyn Shields of John Carroll Catholic High School and Madelyn Friday of Sylacauga, who shot 74. The pair was also joined on the all-tournament team by Eleanor Forbes from Oak Mountain High School and Caroline Bonamy from John Carroll Catholic High School.

“Overall, it was a very good day of golf for golfers from all across our area,” said varsity golf coach, Greg Lane. “Seeing this many young men and women playing the game is encouraging. The good Lord held off the weather till the very end and everyone completed their rounds. As for Sylacauga teams we saw an improvement in our boys team scores as we are a young team with a lot of room to improve. The ladies coming in second was a great job as all of their scores are improving also. I look forward to the rest of the season as we will be hosting the first round of state playoffs for both the boys and the girls at the end of April.”
