Sylacauga Head Football Coach Chris Smelley found alive off Florida Gulf Coast

WALTON CO., Fla. – Sylacauga Head Football Coach Chris Smelley has been found alive and safe off the Florida Gulf Coast.

Earlier this morning, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported Smelley, 37, went missing after not returning from a solo kayaking trip. Local, state, and federal agencies searched for Smelley all day in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Coach Smelley “has been located safe by the United States Coast Guard out of Mobile.”
