SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga’s Parks and Recreation dedicated a brand new set of “PlayOn!” playground equipment at Noble Park, designed to promote youth physical activity.
It’s a National Demonstration Site for both the “PlayOn!” and “Inclusive” practices in action that allowed for the availability of grant funds for the project.
The new playground features the “7 Principles of Inclusive Playground Design®” to meet the developmental needs of the whole child by intentionally providing opportunities for physical, cognitive, communicative, social/emotional, and sensory development.
Implementation of these best practice principles helps create a unique and meaningful play environment that is usable by more people, to the greatest extent possible.
Steve Masters, the Director of Sylacauga Parks and Recreation, noted the commitment made by Mayor Jim Heigl and the Sylacauga City Council to enhance Parks and Rec via the recent sales tax increase.
“They specifically included a good portion of the funds raised to make needed upgrades and improvements across the board for our department,” said Masters. “This project and more show their superior support of what we can offer the community.”
