SYLACUAGA, Ala. – Citizens of Sylacauga will soon have a chance to clean up the community.
Litter on the streets and sidewalks is a major problem in Sylacauga, according to District 5 city council candidate John Wesson. He has teamed up with local influencer Paul Stepp to organize a community clean-up day.
“We need a clean-up day because of the amount of trash you see on the side of the highway,” said Wesson. “This is a big problem, and this should bring awareness to the problem.”
Wesson told SylacaugaNews.com the city’s appearance plays a vital role when people, and businesses, consider coming here.
“If we want to invite more people to live in Sylacauga, we have to look the part. People want to see a clean city, and live in a nice looking community,” he said. “The better our city looks the better chance we have in landing new businesses and jobs.”
The clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 8:00 to 10:30. Supplies will be provided. Everyone participating will meet at the J. Craig Smith Community Center then disperse to different areas from there. After the work is done, a cookout will follow.
Churches and other community groups are invited to attend.
