Sylacauga, Ala. – In the most challenging year anyone of this generation can recall, teachers are doing a great job of meeting these challenges to give our children a brighter future. In recognition of the dedication and sacrifices teachers are making, Gov. Ivey has proclaimed November 16-22 “Thank Alabama Teachers” week.
State superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey said in a release, “The challenges presented to Alabama teachers this year are unprecedented, and we want teachers to know how much they are appreciated and how much we see them and all they are doing. From ensuring classrooms are safe for in-person learning to wrangling the new realities of online teaching, these exemplary Alabamians are to be commended and recognized. Individuals and businesses throughout the state are encouraged to express gratitude to the men and women currently going above and beyond for both their students and communities.
“Our teachers have been exceptional in the way they have accepted the unpredictable changes imposed by the pandemic,” said Sylacauga City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jon Segars. “When schools closed last spring our teachers jumped into action preparing final assignments for students to do online or in packets to complete skills and standards. They spent the summer planning for various learning options based on the information available at the time. They adapted those plans to accommodate the learning needs of students and platforms chosen by the parents. Through all of this, our teachers have built a strong network of communication with parents, coming together for the success of each child. I applaud the teachers as well as our supporting staff for their efforts to remain diligent in educating Sylacauga’s students.”
Be sure to thank a teacher this week, for all their hard work and sacrifices during these uncertain times.
