SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City School system will continue providing free breakfast and lunch to all students despite the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller said the district remains committed to supporting families in need and will maintain meal services regardless of federal funding.
In addition to daily meals, the district is partnering with Alabama Childhood Food Solutions to provide weekly “backpacks” filled with non-perishable food items to families requiring assistance. School counselors and teachers help identify households most in need of the extra support.
The initiative comes as the prolonged shutdown has increased demand for food assistance for students in the community, reinforcing the district’s dedication to ensuring every child has access to nutritious meals.
