SYLACAUGA, Ala. — Citing staffing shortages, all Sylacauga city schools have scheduled an e-Learning Day on Jan. 18.
“We are seeing a rise in the number of positive COVID cases among staff members,” said Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller, “and there simply are not enough substitutes to cover all of the classes.”
Schools will be closed on Monday, a federal holiday, and Eller explained that the additional day would allow sufficient time for recovery and also be used for extra cleaning and sanitation of buildings and buses. Staff not affected by COVID will report to work on Tuesday.
Any students needing a free meal should complete a meal order form by 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
“By making this announcement now, families have time to plan and students can leave school on Friday with the materials and devices they will need for e-Learning on Tuesday,” Eller added.
