SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools earned an overall score of 87 on the Alabama State Department of Education’s newly released report card, marking a one-point gain from last year and continued progress for the district.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller credited the district’s upward trend to steady improvement in academic achievement and student growth across all four schools.
“This continued growth on our system’s report card is encouraging as a leader,” said Dr. Eller. “Our district is committed to providing the best education for the students we serve. In the past four years, our district has moved from an 82 to a now 87. I could not be more proud of our system and the work being done each and every day to improve and impact student achievement.”
Districtwide, more than 98 percent of students exceeded state standards for academic growth on standardized tests. Sylacauga City Schools also recorded a 95 percent graduation rate — accounting for 30 percent of the total score — and an 83 percent rate of students achieving College and Career Readiness, which makes up 10 percent of the score.
Academic achievement, which contributes 20 percent of the district’s score, improved across all schools, with Sylacauga High School posting the largest gain — a six-point increase on its state report card. Nichols-Lawson Middle School and Sylacauga High both earned exemplary 100 percent growth ratings, reflecting strong year-over-year progress in state assessments.
Chronic absenteeism, another key measure, saw notable improvement, particularly at Indian Valley Elementary, Pinecrest Elementary, and Nichols-Lawson Middle.
Dr. Eller said the district remains focused on attendance, achievement, and preparing students for future success with the continued vision of “Equipping Everyone for Excellence.”
