SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools officially welcomed Jessica Hahn into the role of Executive Director of Teaching and Learning during a called board meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Ms. Hahn brings more than 20 years of experience in education, including 13 years in administrative leadership. District officials said she has a record of improving instructional outcomes, having led two campuses out of formal school improvement status and guiding both schools to exceed state benchmarks after periods of stagnant growth.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller praised the appointment, calling Hahn “a great addition” and “a valuable asset” to the district.
“Her deep understanding of curriculum and instruction as well as her pedagogy knowledge and school building leadership will help us reach all of our students in a meaningful and impactful way,” Dr. Eller said.
Hahn said she is committed to equity and data-driven instruction, emphasizing that every student in Sylacauga deserves access to high-quality teaching. Her leadership plan centers on three pillars: instructional coherence, empowered educators, and data-informed decision-making.
That approach includes aligning curriculum, assessment, and professional development to reduce variability in student outcomes; providing job-embedded professional learning focused on high-impact instructional strategies; and using real-time student data to guide resources and adjust instruction.
Hahn said she is honored to join the district and looks forward to building on its existing foundation.
“My passion in education is developing strong processes that support state standards to lead all students to academic success,” she said.
District leaders said Hahn will mentor principals, support the curriculum department, and strengthen accountability across schools.
