SYLACAUGA, Ala. – In response to the looming threat of severe weather, the Sylacauga City School (SCS) system has taken a proactive step by canceling on-site schooling for Friday, Jan. 12.
The decision comes as a precautionary measure against the potential hazards posed by straight-line winds, which could lead to downed trees and powerline outages.
Students will transition to remote learning for the day.
The weather forecast for Friday indicates a high of 64°F with a 90 percent chance of thunderstorms.
Some storms may be severe, prompting the closure of all school buildings. Additionally, all after-school activities have been canceled.
The inclement weather, expected between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., has prompted the district to prioritize the well-being of students and staff by implementing this remote learning approach.
