SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools earned an 86 on its annual report card, a two-point increase from last year, according to the Alabama State Department of Education.
The school system attributes its growth to improved academic performance across schools and an impressive graduation rate exceeding 93 percent.
Over 96 percent of students surpassed growth standards on standardized tests, highlighting academic progress across Indian Valley Elementary, Pinecrest Elementary, Nichols-Lawson Middle, and Sylacauga High School.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller lauded the district’s achievements, particularly in graduation rates and College and Career Readiness (CCR). The CCR rate climbed to 82.55 percent, and graduates achieving at least one readiness indicator, such as ACT benchmarks or industry credentials, rose by nearly 4 percent.
“This continued growth on our system’s report card is encouraging as a leader,” said Dr. Eller. “I could not be more proud of our system and the work being done each and every day to improve and impact student achievement.”
Academic achievement, which accounts for 20 percent of the score, showed districtwide gains, with standout performance in grades two through eleven. Pinecrest Elementary and Nichols-Lawson Middle earned exemplary scores in academic growth, contributing 30 percent to the district score.
Efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism also paid off, with significant improvements across the district.
