Sylacauga City Council to meet on Feb. 19

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will hold a work session and regular meeting Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.

The work session will begin at 5:00 p.m., with the regular council meeting to follow.

During the work session, council members will discuss a revised landscape and horticultural bid document, with a related vote that could set the document for bid.

Peyton Crist is scheduled to present information regarding Safe Haven Baby Boxes, while Sam Royster will provide an update on the Sylacauga Housing Authority.

Eric Wright will address the Community Development Block Grant application process, and Officer Josh Coleman will give an update on nuisance abatement efforts involving Deason properties and other cases.

The council is also expected to consider a request from Building Services Director Mike Whetstone to hire a building electrical inspector at Pay Grade BSB-1 Step 3, based on applicable certifications, and to review the police jurisdiction report due March 1, 2026.

Under old business during the regular meeting, the council will consider resolutions and contracts related to the fiscal year 2026 budget, a resolution authorizing Michael Rice of EEF&S to file a Rebuild Alabama Act grant application on the city’s behalf, and a resolution for the city to file a credit card application.

Council members are also scheduled to vote on putting landscape and horticultural services out for bid and amending a previous action placing a six-month hold on issuing certain business licenses tied to vapor, tobacco, and alcohol sales.

New business includes approval of fiscal year 2025 and fiscal year 2026 accounts payable invoices.
