SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will hold a meeting on Thursday night, May 21, following a work session scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
The meeting is required to begin at 6:00 p.m. due to a scheduled public hearing.
During Old Business, the council will conduct said public hearing regarding the potential annexation of property located at 3601 Old Sylacauga Hwy. The property is currently zoned AG-1.
Council members will also consider overriding veto objections issued by Mayor Dr. Matt Hubbard concerning Resolution 52-2026.
Additional items under Old Business include consideration of a resolution authorizing the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to submit the FY27 Section 5311 Nonurbanized Area Public Transportation Program grant application on behalf of the City of Sylacauga.
The council is also expected to consider a resolution allocating General Fund money to address animal control concerns along the Hwy 280 corridor and surrounding businesses and areas.
Under New Business, the council will consider remitting $2,500 in grant-awarded funds to the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce to facilitate the “Marble City Salutes America250 Mural” grant project.
Council members will also consider approval of FY26 Accounts Payable invoices.
