SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will meet Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 5:00 p.m. to begin their work session.
The following agenda items will be addressed:
1. Approve Ordinance No. 2274-24 to establish an Automobile Allowance for the Fire Chief for the City of Sylacauga and to rescind Ordinance No. 2242-22 to amend Ordinance 1838 adopted Sept. 28, 1994, removing Expense Account for Reimbursement of Travel Expenses Provided to the Fire Chief.
2. Approve Resolution No. 100-2024 – Purchasing Procedures and rescind Resolution No. 2-98 – Purchasing Policy.
3. Approve Resolution No. 111-2024 for FY25 Coosa Valley Medical Center funding, totaling $520,755. (Includes $25,000 for construction modification to the existing space, to be reimbursed from the General Fund)
4. Amend Resolution No. 85-2020 to adjust Compensation Amount for Dean McConatha, Public Defender for the Municipal Court.
5. Amend Resolution No. 08-2021 to adjust Compensation Amount for Matt West, City Prosecuting Attorney for the Municipal Court.
6. Amend Resolution No. 32-2023 to adjust Compensation Amount for Taylor A. Pharr, Esq., part-time presiding Municipal Judge for the Municipal Court.
7. Authorize a Public Hearing for re-zoning 3209 and 3211 Talladega Hwy from MX2 – Limited Mixed-Use District to B2 – General Business District.
8. Authorize a Public Hearing for re-zoning of property located on Coaling Rd. owned by Josh Taylor from AG2 – General Agricultural District to RT 1 – Zero Lot line Residential District.
9. Establish Uniform Guidelines for the City of Sylacauga and to rescind Resolution No. 14-2020, authorizing Work Boots to be Added as Part of the Uniform Required to be Worn by Street and Shop Department Workers.
10. Authorize Summonses in Lieu of Arrest in Accordance with the Fourth Supplemental State of Emergency Proclamation Issued by Gov. Kay Ivey on March 26, 2020.
11. Approve Resolution No. 135-2024 to amend Resolution No. 72- 2024 for the Contract for Architectural and Engineering Services with Williams Blackstock Architects for the Sylacauga Recreation and Aquatics Center to include additional design services for the City of Sylacauga’s Old Municipal Pool Redevelopment.
12. Declare one Glock Model 17 firearm as surplus property to present to retiring officer as a token of the City of Sylacauga’s appreciation for their faithful service.
13. Approve Resolution No. 137-2024 to payout all accruals of compensatory time be paid out at the rate it was earned by Sept. 30, 2024 and no longer authorize future compensatory time-off.
14. Approve the Police Department to purchase four 2024 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4s totaling $370,829.08.
15. Approve the Police Department to apply for Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Project Lifesaver International Grant.
16. Approve the Police Department to replace uniforms due to damages not covered by insurance.
17. Approve and authorized Mayor Jim Heigl to sign the Flock Safety Camera Agreement for the Sylacauga Police Department, totaling $69,500.
18. Authorize the use of take-home vehicles to include only the following positions: Police Chief, Police Captain, Police Lieutenants, Police Investigations, K-9 Units, School Resource Officers, Street Superintendent, Assistant Street Superintendent and the Shop Superintendent, effective Oct. 1, 2024.
19. Accept Mayor Heigl’s recommendation to appoint a permanent Police Chief, effective Oct. 1st , 2024.
20. Approve Sylacauga Parks and Recreation to host “Various Events” at the various parks and waive the $50 Special Event License fee for FY25.
