SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will meet Thursday night at Sylacauga City Hall.
The council will hold a work session at 5:00 with the meeting following shortly after.

- Request from Gary Wesson, Teddy Byrd, and Ron Cummings for a Special Event Permit to hold a motorcycle show and stereo sound-off competition on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, in the parking lot behind Odie’s Deli and Fermenter’s Market. PD Chief Johnson has also recommended closing East 2nd Street from Broadway to Calhoun Avenue.
- Authorization for City Clerk/Treasurer Patricia Carden to extend contract with TempForce-Smart Staffing Solutions for the services of one (1) temporary general clerical worker to assist with reporting for residential solid waste collection and other clerical functions within the Admin/Finance Dept. for up to 180 additional days at the billable rate of $13.50 per hour (employee $10 per hour plus 35% markup) (Original contract approved 12-3-19 for up to 120 days, additional 60 days approved 5-5-20).
- Application for transfer of Retail Beer (off premises only) and Retail Table Wine (off premises only) from Mitalbahen Ramjibhai Patel, owner of Sumukh 3 Inc., DBA Hop In Texaco located at 804 W Ft. Williams. Transfer of license from Central Alabama Management, LLC.
- Application for transfer of Retail Beer (off premises only) and Retail Table Wine (off premises only) from Mitalbahen Ramjibhai Patel, owner of Sumukh 2 Inc., DBA Hop In Chevron 2 located at 1001 N Broadway Avenue. Transfer of license from Central Alabama Management, LLC.
- Accept FY19 audit as prepared by Machen McChesney LLP.
- Approve travel/expenses for Judge Barry Vaughn to attend the 2020 Fall Law Conference in Gulf Shores September 24-26, 2020. Registration fee is $275. Additional fees for lodging, mileage, meals, and Judicial CLE fee of $30 will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Vaughn are $1,605. Expenses to be paid from the Municipal Court’s travel/training account as the Supreme Court waived the required hours for municipal magistrates this year.
- Approve travel/expenses for Joe Carlton to attend the 2020 Fall Law Conference in Gulf Shores September 24-26, 2020. Registration fee is $275.00. Additional fees for lodging, mileage, and meals will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Carlton are $1,575.
- Approve travel/expenses for PD Lt. Renea Cummings to attend the CLEEP Training “Effective Management in a Volatile Society for the Police Executive” on August 24, 2020, and “Dealing Effectively with the External Environment” on August 25, 2020, in Oxford. Registration fee is $99 per course. Cummings and Whatley will carpool in a city-provided vehicle. Total estimated expense for Cummings is $198.
- Approve travel/expenses for PD Lt. Willis Whatley to attend the CLEEP Training “Effective Management in a Volatile Society for the Police Executive” on August 24, 2020, and “Dealing Effectively with the External Environment” on August 25, 2020, in Oxford. Registration fee is $99 per course. Whatley and Cummings will carpool in a city-provided vehicle. Total estimated expense for Whatley is $198.
- Approve travel/expenses for PD Chief Kelley Johnson to attend the CLEEP Training “Effective Management in a Volatile Society for the Police Executive” on Aug. 24, 2020, in Oxford. Registration fee is $99. Johnson will carpool with Cummings and Whatley in a city-provided vehicle. Total estimated expense for Johnson is $99.00.
- Approve travel/expenses for HR Specialist Jayne McGee to attend the ACRMS Workers Compensation class for recertification to be held in Auburn Aug. 7, 2020. Registration fee is $180. Additional fees for a meal and mileage will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for McGhee are $275.44.
- Balance of Accounts Payable for June in the amount of $507,058.44.
- June payroll in the amount of $418,832.14.
