Sylacauga City Council proposed agenda – Feb. 21, 2019

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will meet for the second time in February tonight.

The Council will meet on a Thursday as opposed to a Tuesday due to the Monday holiday.

The following items are on the council’s agenda:

  • Resolution 04-2019 setting date for public hearing to consider a request from Blue Bell Creameries to close a portion of a public alley within Blue Bell property located off of West 4th Street.  Recommendation from Planning Commission to close alley.
  • Resolution 05-2019 authorizing purchase of two Model 325D/72 Grasshopper Mowers, with 72” DuraMax Side Discharge Cutting Decks for the Street Department from Moridge Manufacturing, Inc. at the State Bid Price of $11,425 each (Included in 2019 Capital budget at $11,546.25/ea).
  • Resolution 06-2019 authorizing a $5,000 sponsorship of the 11th annual Marble Festival.
  • Request from Comer Museum to close West 8th Street between North Broadway Avenue and North Norton Avenue to accommodate additional space for the Museum’s 6th Annual Car and Bike Show on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 9 am to 2pm.
  • Recommendation from Interim Director of Code Enforcement Mike Whetstone to enter into contract with H & B Builders to secure and weather-tight former Mountainview School building at a cost of $7,626.
  • Request for refund due to overpayment of 2019 business license fees from Shane Bland DBA CL Gunworks in the amount of $62.50.
  • Request from Court Clerk Amber Johns to return cash bond to defendant Kanaji Bhati on Case #MC09-558 in the amount of $800
  • Request from Street Supt. Reed Calfee and Mayor to grant request for leave without pay for employee Evan Williams.
  • Appointment to Commercial Development Authority – vacant supernumerary four-year term beginning March 15, 2019.  Jim Hethcox was the only applicant.
  • Appointment to Airport Authority – six-year term of David Morrill expired August, 2018.  Robert Holmes was the only applicant.
  • Appointment to Parks and Recreation Board – five-year term of Darren Holland expired October, 2018.  Rocky Lucas was the only applicant.
  • Approve expenses for PD Officer Blake McGhee to attend the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy Emergency Narcotics Operations course in Meridian, Mississippi, February 11-15, 2019.  No registration fee.  Expenses for meals to and from the training, as well as fuel for a City vehicle.  Estimated total expenses for McGhee are $100.
  • Approve expenses for Code Enforcement Administrative Secretary Shannon Plexico to attend the Alabama City County Management Association’s Certification course – Human Resource Management and Staff Effectiveness in Prattville March 7-8, 2019.  Registration fee is $195.  Additional expenses for meals will be incurred.  Estimated expenses for Plexico are $220.
  • Approve expenses for Police Sgt. Shane Bland, Lt. Willis Whatley, Officer, Stephen Ledbetter, Investigator Ben Layton, and Sgt. Charlton Kircus to attend the NE Al Law Enforcement Academy’s APOSTC Firearms Instructor Development Course in Piedmont June 5-6, 2019.  Registration fee is $50.00 per officer. Officers will carpool in city vehicles.  No additional expenses will be incurred.
  • Balance of Accounts Payable invoices for January in the amount of $707,115.92.
  • January payroll in the amount of $425,672.58.

The Sylacauga City Council will meet at 6:00 in the council chamber at Sylacauga City Hall.
