SYLACAUGA, Ala. – At Thursday night’s Sylacauga City Council meeting, the council voted to approve one ordinance and one resolution that will support providing for the election of municipal officers as well as authorizes the use of electronic vote counting devices for said elections.
Also at the meeting, the city council authorized Sylacauga Parks and Recreation to oversee a land use agreement with Sylacauga Youth Softball.
The council declared various office equipment from City inventory as surplus property and authorize disposal through GovDeals.com online auction or other appropriate means.
Approval was given for a quote received from Pearson Electric for Station 1 renovations totaling $32,336. (Funding from Capital Improvements Reserve Fund)
The council approved the $1 buyout of three Canon copiers and enter into a maintenance agreement with Canon USA Inc. (Terms of the maintenance agreement include black an white copies at $0.0086 per page and color copies at $0.0483 per page.)
A three-year lease renewal with Bobby Ray Green for a City-owned parcel of land located on Lake Louise Dr., described as Lot No. 1 of Block 6, Section “B” of the Avondale Mills subdivision was approved. (Lease to renew effective May 1, 2025 and end April 30, 2028, with an option for an additional three-year lease renewal, if agreed upon by both parties.)
Fiscal Year 2025 Accounts Payable invoices, totaling $556,421.09, were also approved.
After no attendees present accepted the offer to speak to the city council, City Attorney Edwin B. Livingston, Jr. advised the council to enter into an executive session to talk about matters involving trade or commerce in which the council is in competition with private individuals or entities, other Alabama governmental bodies, other states, or foreign nations.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, at 6:00 p.m.
