SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met on Tuesday night, Oct. 7, following a work session which began at 4:00 p.m.
At the meeting, a public hearing was held to receive input and give consideration to the rezoning of 101 E 1st St. from Downtown Business District to MX-2 to allow property to be used as a residence.
After the public hearing was closed, the ordinance for rezoning was passed.
Michael Richardson was appointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals for a three-year term ending Jan. 2028.
The council approved the Mayor and City Council members to attend the ALM 2025 Regional Orientation Training in Montgomery on Oct. 29-30.
Approval of a co-location of an antennae on the cell tower located at 596 Sorrell Rd. was granted.
Resolution 77-2025, outlining regulation for off-duty employment for police officers, was approved.
The promotion of police department officer Shelby Dockery to Sergeant at Grade PDE-1, Step 7 ($28.20 per hour) was approved.
The city council approved the reimbursement pay of up to 60 hours for officer Malcolm Kelley in the amount of $1,260.
The Airport Authority was authorized to apply for grants for FY25.
The council approved Accounts Payable invoices for 2025 in the amount of $291,600.49 as well as Accounts Payable invoices for 2026 in the amount of $45,221.58.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21.
