SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met on Tuesday evening, July 15, at 6:00 p.m. following a work session which began at 4:30 p.m.
At the meeting, a public hearing was held concerning the request of Programmable Logic Consulting, LLC to close a portion of Merkle Ave. located within the property of 1011 Old Birmingham Hwy, with a utility easement granted to the Sylacauga Utilities Board (Ordinance 2285-25). After the hearing, an ordinance was approved to vacate a portion of Merkle Ave. and an unnamed street on said property.
The council allowed Piper Sandler to invest in the GO 2024-B Warrant Funds.
In New Business, the city council approved the $2,500 budget amendment from Spay/Neuter to Office & Operating Supplies.
Sylacauga Police Officer Jonathan Mann’s pay increase from PDC Step 4 to Step 5 was approved.
The $73,000 quote from Summit Waterproofing, Inc. to clean and waterproof all bricks and redo the windows facing Broadway Ave. at City Hall was also approved.
Resolution 33-2025 was rescinded and replaced with Resolution 48-2025, establishing an updated list of Election Officials with approved compensation for the 2025 Municipal Election.
Approval was granted for increasing the Police Department’s budget for street lighting and utility expenses, switching money from the General Fund to Neighboorhood Street Lights in the amount of $5,989.75.
The 2025 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $935,440.91 was approved.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 6:00 p.m.
