SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met on Tuesday night, July 1, at 6:00 p.m. after a work session which started at 5:00 p.m.
At the meeting, the city council approved a telecom/network budget increase in the amount of $36,502.44 for IT invoices.
An amendment was made to the Fire Department’s budget from the General Fund by $31,537.50 for an engine repair.
The council refunded a $300 cash bond to Frank Higginbotham for Case #MC24-0000805.
Authorization was given for the destruction of eight obsolete Police Department computers in accordance with FBI rules.
The city council approved $300,000 to be used for the construction of Sylacauga Parks and Recreation’s proposed pickleball/basketball hub. They also awarded the construction bid for it.
The consulting services of Melody Salter for the City were extended for an extra ten days.
The council approved Mayor Jim Heigl to sign an agreement revising the tax abatement for Programmable Logic Consulting, LLC.
As well, they approved election officials and compensation rates for the 2025 Municipal Election.

Kenneth Kromer was named as the Interim Street Superintendent at the recommendation of Mayor Heigl, starting July 1.
The council approved 2025 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $271,562.88 along with the June 2025 payroll in the amount of $525,913.96.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, July 15.
