SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met on Tuesday, Aug. 19 following a work session which began at 5:00 p.m.
At the meeting, Mayor Jim Heigl was authorized to sign a five-year lease purchase agreement with AXON for police body and in-car cameras.
A public hearing was set for Sept. 16 for an ad valorem lien on the property with addresses located at 805, 807, 809, and 811 N. Main Ave.
Approval was granted for a refund of $56.88 to Sylacauga Utilities Board account holder William Woodard II for garbage charges billed to property outside the city limits.
The hiring of one temporary Animal Shelter employee through Sept. 30, 2025 due to an unexpected medical leave was approved.
Firefighter Isaac Holmes’s hiring at FDA-1, Step 3 pay rate for advanced certifications was also approved.
The city council approved the payment of August FY25 Accounts Payable invoices totaling $563,984.49.
The council approved payment in the amount of $30,088.04 to the Municipal Workers Compensation Fund.
An additional payment in the amount of $847.34 due to underpayment for Yolanda Burns was approved.
A funding amount of $20,372.62 to update the bathrooms at South Highland Park was additionally approved.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4 at 6:00 p.m.
