Sylacauga City Council approves waste rate change, awards landscaping contract, sets annexation hearing

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held a regular meeting Tuesday, April 7, following a work session that began at 5:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.

During the meeting, the council established a rate change for Sylacauga residents and participants in the City of Sylacauga’s waste management service currently contracted through GFL Environmental, Inc.

Council members also awarded bid #2026-3-001 for Landscape and Horticultural Services for city-owned and public planters and greenspaces. The three-year contract was awarded to DeWeese Lawns, LLC.

In other business, the council set a public hearing for its May 19, 2026 meeting at 6:00 p.m. regarding the annexation of property located at 3601 Old Sylacauga Hwy. The property is proposed to be zoned AG-1.

The council approved accounts payable invoices for fiscal year 2026 totaling $1,048,259.88. Members also approved March payrolls in the amount of $511,614.03.

The next Sylacauga City Council work session and meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
