SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council approved several fiscal year 2026 appropriations and agreements during its regular meeting on Tuesday night, March 3, following a work session in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.
In Old Business, the council approved an FY26 appropriation not to exceed $73,000 for the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum. Council members also approved $63,750 in FY26 funding for the Sylacauga Industrial Development Board.
The council approved an FY26 appropriation contract totaling up to $108,323 for general operations and improvements for the Sylacauga Airport Authority, along with $375,000 designated for capital grant matching funds for airport improvements.
Additionally, the council approved the FY26 funding outline for appointed officials and the FY26 funding outline for the Sylacauga Civil Service Board.
Council members also voted to set for bid the City of Sylacauga’s Bid No. 2026-3-001 for “Landscape and Horticultural Services for City-Owned/Public Planters and Greenspaces.” The bid period opened upon council approval and will remain open until March 30 at 10:00 a.m.
Personnel actions included approval of Randolph Pankiewicz as Building Inspector – Electrical for BSB-1, Step 3, effective as of his date of hire.
In New Business, the council entered into an agreement with Barge Design Solutions, Inc. and related contractors to facilitate improvements at the Sylacauga Municipal Airport connected to FY25 and FY26 grant applications.
The council also approved an agreement with Jacksonville State University for forensic services, consultation, and education.
Council members declared several vehicles and pieces of equipment outlined in “Exhibit A” as surplus and authorized their disposal by auction, transfer, or other appropriate means. Items include a 2002 Ford pickup previously used by the Building Services Department; a 2003 Ford Ranger used by the Administration and Finance Office; a 2004 Ford F-150 used by the Street Department; and a 2005 Caterpillar skid steer loader used by the Street Department.
The council approved a tax abatement for OMYA, Inc. as recommended by the Sylacauga Industrial Development Board.
Members also approved a 90-day extension to the remediation period previously assigned for nuisance abatement at 404 South Main Ave.
The council voted to refund $242.68 in garbage fees to Anita Crowe for service at 503 Avondale Ave.
Additional personnel approvals included Madison Hughes as an Accounting Clerk for AFA-1, Step 3, effective as of her date of hire.
The council approved accounts payable invoices for fiscal year 2025 totaling $608.85 and for fiscal year 2026 totaling $302,238.75.
The next meeting of the Sylacauga City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, at 6:00 p.m.
