CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Baseball is well underway for organizations from the local Little Leagues to the Major Leagues. Local first responders are gearing up to have a little fun of their own on the diamond.
Police and firemen from Childersburg and Sylacauga are set to compete in a total of three softball games on Saturday, May 13. The games will be held at the softball field next to the Childersburg Recreation Center.
First pitch for Game 1 will be thrown at 1:00 p.m. In the first game, the Sylacauga Police Department will face-off against the Childersburg Police Department. The fire departments are set to play at 3:00 p.m. followed by an integrated game of police and fire from both cities starting at 5:00 in the afternoon.
Tickets for the games can be purchased for $5 at Batter Up in Childersburg. If you wait to purchase tickets at the gate on the day of the game, prices will increase to $7.
The proceeds from the games are going to a good cause according to SPD Chief Kelley Johnson. Every dollar made that day will go towards equipment for the police and fire departments of both cities. Johnson said that’s desperately needed. “Any extra money we can get our hands to help buy purchase the things we need is greatly appreciated,” he said. “We would always prefer to spend money that is not tax money.”
The event is sponsored by Batter Up, Ponder Plumbing and Cater Up. If you would like to sponsor, it is not too late. Call Dusti at Batter Up at (256) 346-3637 for more information.
