SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce held its annual “Celebrate Sylacauga” dinner event last Thursday, April 20, and handed out a number of awards.
The chamber dinner, presented by Omya, was a sold-out event held at 6:30 p.m. at the J. Craig Smith Community Center. Hickory Street Cafe provided the food for the evening.
The following awards were given out during the ceremony:
Firefighter of the Year: Clay Upchurch
Educator of the Year (Sylacauga City Schools): April Lane, Health Sciences Teacher (Nichols-Lawson Middle School)
Educator of the Year (Talladega County Schools): Jennifer Barnett, Instructional/Library Media Specialist (Talladega County Central High School)
Community Service Award: Sylacauga Parks and Recreation
Horizon Award: Broadway Spinal Care
Outstanding Business Award (1-10 employees): Pinhoti Outdoor Center
Outstanding Business Award (11-50 employees): Harvey’s on Noble
Outstanding Business Award (51-100 employees): Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union
Outstanding Business Award (101+ employees): Coosa Valley Medical Center
Spirit of Sylacauga Award: Randy Clark
After the awards presentation, newly-inducted Alabama Music Hall of Fame group Three on a String performed for those in attendance.
The Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce continues striving to make Sylacauga a great place to live, work, and play with its pillars of success being to “provide leadership, promote economic advancement, promote the business climate, and enhance the quality of life.”
