SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Dakota Johnson will be a standout senior for the Sylacauga girls basketball team this season. People in the community will find that out next week when the Lady Aggies start their season Monday night vs. Pell City.
Johnson was the perfect compliment to Aurielle Turner last season when the Aggies made a run to the regional finals in Montgomery. She runs the floor, rebounds and dominates in the paint – everything college programs are looking for in a center.
Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City was one of those schools going after Johnson, and today she signed her letter of intent to play for the CVCC Pirates, four days before the start of her senior season.
“Dakota really felt like this was home for her, so it was an easy choice,” said Destiny Frazier. Frazier is the new girls basketball coach at SHS.
Johnson explained she fell in love with “Chatt” Valley on her visit to the school. “It was high intensity when I watched them practice. I liked the vibe they had going on. They were like family to each other,” she said.
“The seniors and the team look up to her, and she is going to lead this team,” said Frazier. “This is putting the icing on the cake. Anytime you have a college signee on the team that’s somebody that is going to lead the team.”
