SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga High School (SHS) boys’ cross country team secured a spot in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 5A State Cross Country Championship after a strong performance at sectionals last Thursday, Oct. 31.
The team, led by head coach Billy Faircloth and assistant coach B.J. Childress, finished fourth out of nine teams in sectionals, earning them the opportunity to compete at the state level.
“This is a huge accomplishment in only our second season,” said Coach Faircloth. “We are honored and excited to represent Sylacauga High School and for the opportunity to compete for a state championship.”
Sylacauga’s lineup includes senior Chris Wilson, juniors Jackson Carter, Kaleb Fisher, and Anderson Shaw, sophomores Brayden Cooper and Ace Holdeman, and eighth grader Jake Morris.
The state championship will take place this Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Moulton-Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Educational Center in Danville.
The 5A boys race is set to begin at 11:30 a.m., where Sylacauga will face competition from 15 other high schools.
