SYLACAUGA, Ala. – An 80-year-old man was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital after being stabbed multiple times Wednesday morning, April 8 in Sylacauga, and a woman later was charged in connection with the incident.
According to the Sylacauga Police Department, Talladega County E-911 received a call at about 10:25 a.m. Wednesday reporting a stabbing in the 800 block of N Main Ave. Officers arriving at the scene found an elderly male suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Sylacauga Ambulance transported the victim to a nearby landing zone, where he was transferred to a Life Saver helicopter and flown to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Police did not release the victim’s condition.
During the investigation, officers detained a 34-year-old woman, identified as Tashae Devay Whitson, for questioning. Whitson was initially charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and transported to the Talladega County Jail.
On Thursday, April 9, investigators obtained an additional warrant charging Whitson with second-degree assault. The warrant was served while she remained in the Talladega County Jail. Bond was set at $30,000 by the Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
